It would be wise, in the admin panel to have the following options:
- Find and remove orphan files and thumbnails
Find missing files and thumbnails
Refresh filesizes

Open the "toolbox" on ACP. You can find the link on the right side on top of the download management panel

What about an option to edit a "not found file" entry and check if a thumbnail is missing.
